This week on Tuesday we had Duffy assembly and there were some visitors. These visitors were Taylor and Matt Johnson. Taylor was a 4 time championship BMX rider and Matt Johnson was a Blues player. They both encouraged us to read more and to read books we are interested in. Taylor was interested in reading biography's about Michael Jackson and Matt Johnson loved reading non-fiction books. I have taken my photo with my two Duffy books.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teacher is Mrs Anderson.

2 words I minute Winter Olympics
Equipment
Respect
This year for the Winter Olympics we discussing about Poisson connected. The Winter Olympics need equipment to play because if we don't have equipment then we might not able to play the games. Also we need to respect people if we win and the other team lost and if we be disrespect to the other team then they might go insane. There are 55 different country around the worlds. It is held in PyeongChang and was going on for 19 day. There are different events that are held in PyeongChang and there different courses in the PyeongChang arenas and stadiums.
99 words
Today we used the ‘2 words 1 minute’ challenge to write a description about the Winter Olympics. After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the winter Olympics we created a list of words (vocabulary) that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘equipment’ and ‘respect’ to help us think about what we were going to write.
We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 1 minute to put those ideas into sentences. We had to try our best to use all the words on our vocab list. After the minute was up we had 2 minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense, or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2 more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.
All the words that was highlighter is the words in the list. I did really well on putting the word list in my writing. I need to remember to look carefully at where my full stops go.

Stretching Sentences
Today we did stretching sentences in pairs. Stretching sentences is putting more ideas together like who, what, when, where, why. My partner was Josh and we made a google slide to work on. We did the who first, so, who is in the sentence, what he did , when it happened, where it was and why did it happen.

Agents of Change
This week we wrote our ways to become agents of change. It is like setting our goal to success and understating more things. We looked at how we could be agents of change in our own 2018 leaning journey. My goal this year to become an agent of change, is that I want to be successful at reading and I will go to the Panmure library every week to get better at reading and understanding more English vocabulary. To learn hard words that I can’t say or don’t know how to pronounce. I want to get better at my spelling when I write information on my blog posts and my digital learning objects (DLO). I got help by my friend Jack, he helped me draw the pictures, and check my work and my blurb.

Tech Pewter Casting
Today we went to tech to do pewter casting. This is our third session of pewter casting and this week for pewter casting we had to write our name on the board, and show our design to the teacher. We then were given a piece of wood, to trace our design on, and cut out. The design that I chose was a dollar sign, and it tuned out really good. It was almost in perfect shape, but people could still tell what it was. I then used a machine, that cut the wood and 50 slices per second. It was my first time using it, but was fun and easy to get used to. I showed my cut out to Mr Grundy, (Our Teacher) and he really liked what I had done, that he wanted to pour liquid pewter into it, to make my final product. Now all I have to do, is polish the design, and file any rough edges.
