Deadly Measles Outbreak In Samoa

Today for reading we were doing current events. We were learning about the national and international news around the world. Currently, Samoa has been infected with measles as someone from New Zealand with the disease brought it over to Samoa by flight.

Romeo and Juliet

This week for reading and writing we were learning about Romeo and Juliet. We were making a summary after watching a video. After the summary we made a DLO about a animation. The animation that we were doing was a Stick man animation. The animation was about Romeo fighting Tybalt.

Reading Presentation

Today for reading we were doing a presentation about our history topic, our topic was about knight. In our DLO we talked about how to become a knight and some famous knight. After we were done we share our kahoot to our class to do. One interesting fact that I learnt was when the first crusade happen in 1096.    

A History of Protest in New Zealand

This week in reading, our group was reading a book about some of the biggest protest in New Zealand's. The book that we were reading was called Stand Up A History of Protest in New Zealand. As we were doing reciprocal reading, we made a list of vocabulary, summary, predictions and questions. Then we made a literacy weaving strip and using two words each from the book. I chose bread and soldiers because back then instead of fighting the soldiers they would hang out bread. Choosing my second option wasn't hard, I chose soldiers because they were taking down the house to make new roads

The Possum Problem

This week in reading, we read a book about possums and how they were brought to New Zealand. As we were reading we made notes about what we wanted to know, what we already knew and the information we found out. After we read the book, we created a screen castify about possums. We created a DLO and scripts for each person to read.

Supermarket stopped selling energy drinks to kid under 16

A provocation is an action or a speech that triggers strong feeling about a topic. Recently a major supermarket chain a announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to people under the age of 16. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that show both perspectives what is your opinion and why? 

Exploring our national current events

News editors make decisions everyday about which current events stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in NZ,thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google maps.

DAWN RAIDS

Today were talking about the dawn raids and made a DLO about it. We made a DLO talking about the two perspective about the Government and Polynesian. We also made a summary about the story and made our own opinion. We made this DLO in groups, in my group it was Joseph, Julian and I.     

Waltzing Matilda

This week for reading, we talked about the main idea about Waltzing Matilda. We also had to back up our main idea by writing down true details from the text. We then made a summary DLO about Waltzing Matilda. In this DLO we added 20 important words, which we then narrowed down to 6 most important words out of the 20. Using those 6 words, we had to make a summary about the poem, Waltzing Matilda. The poem was about a Swag man who stole a sheep from a farmer, which the farmer than called the troops to catch him. The Swag man was well aware that the troops was under his tail, until he escaped them and was never seen again.

Literary Devices

Here Is the Link To my DLO. This week we were learning about poetry for writing and Mrs Anderson challenged us to make a google doc and try to turn it to a DLO using a google doc so that me we can't go on any tabs to look for photo so we need to look for photo on the google doc on explore. The hard thing was looking photo on google doc explore and it was also challenging because we can't go on any tabs.   

One Small Step - Independent Reading Challenge Response

This term for reading we have been reading from selection of texts that are linked to our inquiry topic of Space. What that means is that we chose a text to read then used reading response prompts to answer questions about a book. I found it interesting to read my friend's feedback to my responses. Mrs Anderson showed us how to turn this feedback into a dialogic conversation so that we talked more about our learning. My favourite part of this was the create tasks because after answering 5 reading responses I had a good understanding of the information that I was doing.

Laika: Summary

Today we used our skimming and scanning skills to find the information and detail we needed to write a summary. Skimming like a low flying plane. You look over the information once, (this should take about about 3 - 5 seconds). Scanning is like a helicopter, you find what it is looking for and then hover over until the information has been found. To practice these skills we created a DLO that summaries Laika's journey in Sputnik 2.

Brando Yellavich

This week for reading we read a book called the wild boy it was about a boy who went on an adventure across the coastlines. He went on an adventure to raise 10,000 for the Ronald McDonald house. He was a brave teenager to go across the cost line because most people don't want to risk they life. 

Read Theory

This week for read theory I read a story about Luna Moth. I found it interesting that the Luna Moth can grow up to 4.5 inches and only lives for 7 to 10 days. I need to work on my reading because some of the words in the story I do not know how to say. I am good at answering the questions from the story because I got it all correct in this story.      

Te Tiriti o Waitangi

A special event has been happening for the pass few years, which is the Treaty of Waitangi. As an excitement LS2 is working collaboratively to learn about the Treaty of Waitangi. Did you know that the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, 6th of February? More than 500 chiefs signed this. This slide included information about the Treaty of Waitangi. We did a lot of summarising, but at the same time we learnt a bunch of new vocabulary words. We collaboratively communicated together for the last task, which was to choose 2 questions and communicate with our group at the same time. The questions that we chose were what factors make a successful partnership between two people and what would Aotearoa be like today if we had no treaty. We listed down a lot of ideas, as we started talking. Talking was the main thing that helped us during this activity. 

Read Theory Analysis

I have created this DLO to show my progress of read theory. I have worked hard on reaching up to level six. I have enjoyed doing read thoey because it help me with my reading. I worked with Joshua w for this activity.  

Emily Garvett - Wolves

Today our teacher read as a book that call wolves form Emily Garvett. The book was about a rabbit reading a book that was called wolves. After the book was readed we went off and make a DLO about Myths about wolves and the fact and the myths.

MeerCats

Today the teacher read to us a book written and illustrated by Emily Gravett. The book was about a MeerKats. By listening to the story we took and find some information and make a DLO about MeerKats.  We have learnt a lot about MeerKats including where they live and what they eat. They like to eat snakes and eggs, scorpions.

Today for reading we learnt about the Battle of the Somme and I work with Alex.

We were answering some question about the battle of the Somme. We read about 

the battle of the Somme and trying to find the answer to the question.
