Summer Leaning Journey Activity 2

For the second activity we had to write about our hometown and what makes it special. We had to put some adjectives to write about our hometown.

Auckland is a magnificent place to be apart of and It is called the city of sails. Auckland has a great view up the sky tower because it is high and you can see the sun set.  Panmure is my hometown, Panmure is special to me because it is a calm place. It is nice and quiet but some time at night you can hear car going through. It is also special because it makes me happy and because there is lots of polite people.
   

Summer Learning Journey Activity 1

1. The Maori name of New Zealand is Aotearoa which means the land of the long white cloud.
2. New Zealanders are also called kiwis but kiwi is not a fruit. It is New Zealand’s native flightless bird.
3. There are no snakes in the country

Today for the first activity for the summer learning journey we had to find our top 3 fact that we chose form a website. I chose three fact that I find interesting and the website that we look at was about New Zealand. Here is the website.

WWI - Armistice day

This week we have been learning about WWI. Today Freeman and I, drew two soldiers being Happy because there is peace and no war. I have also draw a poppy which remembers the fallen in WWI. I have draw this to celebrate Armistice day. 

Armistice Commemoration

Today we had our own Armistice commemoration. It is nearly one hundred year since the beginning of Armistice Day. A representative form the New Zealand defense force came and talk to us in the Armistice commemoration. Mr Johnston talked to us about the olive tree and Ms Kirkpatrick talk about The Flanders Field. Ofa, Tiava and Jeremiah went up and talk Ode of remembrance. Jack and Mele went up and put the poppy by the fence. My role today was putting down the flag and putting it up while the a music played along. The music is called the last post and I was very nervous putting down the flag and putting it back up because everyone was look at me.   

Shake Out

Today was New Zealand shake out day, we were asked to make a DLO that explains what earthquakes are as well as what causes an earthquake. We also needed to write about what happened when  earthquakes happened in Christchurch and Napier. We were also practicing what to do for when there was an earthquake. We needed to get down low and find a sturdy table to hold on to. We used a site call shakeout.govt.nz to find out most of our information.

Career

Today for inquiry we were finding out about what career we are going to do when we grow up and I found lots of things that I didn't know about the career that I was doing. The thing why I like to do art is because I like to draw and I love art.         

Kiwi Can

Today for kiwi can we have a new topic for this term and it is Resilience. Resilience is when you are setting you goal for success and our new theme is  goal setting. For our energizer we play a game called horse and jockies it was fun. The point of this game is all about us power walk around the circle when she say horse and if she say jockies that me we power walk to or pairs and touch them on they back. If she say banana then we switch with our pairs and for our activities we set up a goal point and try to reach it. The first cone is worth 50 points the second one worth 100 and the last one is 150 and it is a bonus cone but the bonus point you can take the other team point off. 

Algorithms

Today for math we did a DLO about algorithms. Algorithms is all about trading and exchange the number to the hundreds, tens and one. This is strategy that I learnt it is very easy to learn it is all about adding the number together in the column.       

Virtual reality

Today in maths our teacher let us try out virtual reality. Me and my friends Joshua and Dallas did it all together we went out side on the stairs and looked threw the virtual reality glasses it look realistic threw the virtual reality glasses. When we looked down it is like we were floating in the air. I am looking forward to do this because it was super fun using this tool.     

Who Wants To Be a Mathionaire?

Today for math we played a game called Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. This game is all about us answering the times table, there is a board of money at the side. Each answer you get it right the money will go up to $1,000,000. If you get all of the questions right you will get the money up to $1,000,000. If you get one answer wrong we need to to start over again. It is very fun playing this game because I can get better at my timetable. Here is the Link to the game.

The Unicycle Craze

Today for reading we read a story about The Cycling Craze, it is about some of the things that were used in the olden day. We also learning about the different types of cycles in the olden day. There are three types and they are unicycle that means it has one wheel, bicycle that means it only has two wheels and last but not less the tricycle the tricycle has three wheels on it.

Making Connections

Today for reading we did reciprocal reading the book that we were reading is called energy boost it is about eating healthy food. We read the book and ask some question in the group. When we were done read the book we made a copy of the template it is called making connections. There are three question for me to answer it is text tot text, text to world and text to self.            

Respiratory System

Today for inquiry we did a game to help us about the respiratory system. The game will tell us to write the correct answer in the text that cont to the body part of the respiratory system. It was hard because some words I don't know about it in the respiratory system.            

Tech: DigiTech Session 1

This week we began our first session for Digi Tech. We talk about our neighborhood , scratch and about the calendar. Our teacher for Digi Tech name is Ms Anderson when we were finished we did a kahoot about our learning that we talk about and then we did a game based a movies of Moana. The game tech us coding, and our goal was to make it to a certain position.

Leap Of Faith - Narrative

Leap Of Faith

The sun had setted and then out came the moon, it shines over me and my friends. All around us it began to get darker and darker as I imagined in my mind what it would be like to be enjoying the night flying. Tonight I was going to fly for the first time, I felt very nervous. I was afraid to take my leap of faith.

A strong gust of wind blew behind me, then I started to shake a lot. That's when I told myself that I was scared to fly for the first time. I felt more nervous than before. I just wanted to get rid of this feeling, so I put one leg up and then a gust of wind blew at me slowly. My talons were shaking and that's when I was starting to freak out. I knew I had to be brave so I told myself that I can do it. I held my breath and leapt off the edge of the branch, and dived into the blank sky. “I did it I can fly now, I am not afraid to do this anymore”.

The wind picked me up, then I spread out my wings like an angel. I felt the icy air on my feathers, it reminded me that I needed to control my wings. So I started flapping them to get the icy air off my feathers. I couldn't believe what I was doing, for the first time I started to control my wings to be able to fly. I was so amazed at what I did. So I set out looking for my favourite snack.

This term we have been learning how to write narratives. I have written a narrative called the Leap Of Faith. By doing this, it helped me put in more powerful words in my narrative. I really enjoyed this activity because it helped me improve my skills at writing narratives. Next time I want to make sure I add more information in my narrative.

Duffy Assembly

This week on Tuesday we had Duffy assembly and there were some visitors. These visitors were Taylor and Matt Johnson. Taylor was a 4 time championship BMX rider and Matt Johnson was a Blues player. They both encouraged us to read more and to read books we are interested in. Taylor was interested in reading biography's about Michael Jackson and Matt Johnson loved reading non-fiction books. I have taken my photo with my two Duffy books.
