Romeo and Juliet

This week for reading and writing we were learning about Romeo and Juliet. We were making a summary after watching a video. After the summary we made a DLO about a animation. The animation that we were doing was a Stick man animation. The animation was about Romeo fighting Tybalt.

Writing Personification

As my tired, soggy and worn out body slowly scrapes across the muddy concrete floor, I think back to what happened this morning. 

Just as I was about to fall asleep, these 5 wrinkly, cheese smelling things are shoved inside me. Their sharp tips scratch my innards and get caught in my fabric. I angrily chafe this intruder, and it responds by smacking me against a wall. As I’m unwilling to be torn on any sharp objects, I relent and let the smelly thing be. After an hour or so of running, my friend and I are forced to watch as the giant goes straight through a puddle of mud- with us still attached! It only groaned as a huge amount of water started flooding through my skin. 

Boy do I hate being a shoe.

Today for writing Alex and I needed to write a story from a shoes' perspective, the thing is, we couldn't talk. It got confusing at times because we both had ideas but they were nothing alike. We also needed to use the some of the senses to describe what was happening to the shoe. After that, we listened to the other group's stories and then we presented our own.

Writing Explanation

Why would I be an asset to my new school?

When I go to my new school I am going to take everything that I learnt here and take it with me on my journey. For example I am going to take all the maths strategies that I learnt here with me so I use them when I am stuck on a hard question.

I would also take my sportsmanship and teamwork with me when I join a sport team in my new school. I will be a team player and cheer them on, even if I’m not on the field or court. I would also do my best, train hard, try not to let my team down. If we lose I won’t get angry but I will wish the other team good luck.

I would get involved with the learning and sharing ideas if I am in a group. I will listen to what people have to say about the work that we are doing, and if someone is not involved get them involved with the learning. I am also going to join in things that I don’t like and just deal with it.

I am also going to take my respect, kindness and empathy with me. That means I am going to be kind to other people, show respect by listening to the teacher and do as I am told. When someone is upset I will look after them and listen to what they have to say or what is happening.

When I start my next school I am going to wake up earlier everyday and look smart. I will continue to come to school on time and turn on my brain on so I get ready for school work. I am going to meet new friends and try not to be shy to say hello to people I don’t know. I will try my best and will work hard in all my subjects. I am really excited and can’t wait to start my new learning journey.

Today for Writing I wrote a explanation about why would I be an asset to my new school. In my explanation it talked about what I am bring with me when I go to a new school. I talked about the strategies that I would use if a am stuck. I also talked about showing sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, kindness and empathy.

Don’t Judge someone

Respect…. Kindness…. Empathy, they are the three most important values that you need to show. Don’t judge someone by it cover, it is because something bad might happen to them like losing their job. If you show the three words you could make their day. It is because they might need a friend to talk to and share their feelings.

Respect: you should always show respect when you see someone on the street instead of disrespect them like this for example ( look at you why do you need the money you problem going to buy some drugs but instead he probably need the money to buy food for his family). You should ask what's wrong first instead of disrespecting someone.

Kindness: some people don't show kindness it is because they judge people that are homeless to quickly. This is why they don’t give money to them. In a video that I watched was an experiment if people will give a rich guy money for baby food or the homeless guy to buy baby food for his baby. Most people give money to the rich guy it is because their are probably think that the poor guy is lying and don’t need the money.

Empathy: I should say that this word is the most important word, you know why let me tell you. Imagine you are on the street and I read you sign and I say it not true you are lying and I walk away (The sign was you ask for money). How would you feel if this happens to you. The right thing you need to do is ask what's wrong and also share each others feel about what happened to him in the past. You should also help him if he needs money and one important thing you should do, it is to make him have a happy day.

This week for writing I were writing an explanation about using respect, kindness and empathy towards other people. In my explanation I talked about don't judge them if there are poor and also we should away talk to them how they feeling and share feeling.       

Rugby Advertisement

This week for writing, we were making Advertisement for Rugby. We had 2 choices, to either make a video or make a poster. We first planned to make a video, but as time sped up we chose to make a poster. We also chose to use a Rugby Ball as our advertisement. We tried to use some qualities that advertisement had so that it is really relatable. 

Supermarket stopped selling energy drinks to kid under 16

A provocation is an action or a speech that triggers strong feeling about a topic. Recently a major supermarket chain a announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to people under the age of 16. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that show both perspectives what is your opinion and why? 

Explanation: Should NZ ban plastic?

65,000 thousand plastic straws have been collected for over 10 years in New Zealand beaches. Did you also know that there about 437 million - 8.3 billion plastic straws in the Ocean. Hi my name is Aung Naing and I think that we should ban plastic straws. Plastic straws are a harm to sea creatures. Its unusual why people throw away plastic straws.

My reason for talking about this is because there are so many plastic straws that are made every day. I feel like we need to change our actions because there are a lot of plastic straws that have been thrown on the ground every single day. After you finish throwing your plastic straw on the ground it could go out to sea and letting the sea turtle eating it or getting it stuck up their nose.

We should remove plastic straws and add paper straws or use other material instead of plastic. It is because paper straw can dissolve but plastic straw are harder to dissolve or break down, it is because it takes 500 year to break down. There are different materials we can use like metal, you can carry it with you and you can keep reusing it, but plastic straws are not that useful, it is because it can bend easily.

Did you know that there are about 500 million plastic straws are used every single day. Wow! I think that there are a lot of plastic straws that are used every day. Well some shops are to be blamed, Mc Donald, Burger King and KFC sell free Plastic Straws.

This is why I would not suck, it is because it is harming the marine animals, out of curiosity, have you ever seen people taking a plastic straw out of a sea turtle nose before.

This week for writing we were making a DLO about reason why we should ban plastic straws and why we should't ban plastic straws and also in the middle was our opinion. My partner I decided for our opinion we will talk about why we should ban plastic straws. It is because it is killing the sea animal.

children under the age of 15 shouldn’t be able to play video games that involve shooting

Hi my name is Aung Naing and I believe children under the age of 15 years old shouldn’t be able to play video games that involve shooting, not because kids shouldn’t play any video games, I just think that shooting games influence children to have the same actions as the video games.

My reason for talking about this is because shooting games give people a clear message that guns can lead to a bad problem. Playing shooting games like Fortnite, Call of Duty and other games is not a good idea for younger kids because they can learn bad words. 

Shooting Games like Fortnite can get kids addicted, which means they can lose focus with their learning while in school. They might be staying up late at night playing games to get better or to get a win, which will make them very tired. Another problem is that they are missing out on fresh air and exercise.

Kids can get more violent playing the game and won’t stop playing it is because these games are very addictive. If the game is taken off them they can retaliate violently towards their caregiver.

Playing violent games might be fun, but you never know what that fun could cause or teach you. Imagine waking up to a gun pointing at your head, it could be your brother or your sister because anyone can change with this sort of influence. 

A couple of weeks ago we were working on making our persuasive speech for the speech competition. My speech was about why children under the age of 15 years old shouldn’t be able to play video games that involve shooting. I wrote this because it is bad for younger kids to play, they can learn a lot of thing form older people. I did well saying my speech but I didn't do well to have the confidence to say it in a big group.

Respect The Sea

One day Jack, a little red snapper was swimming around in the sea. His parents had told him to stay away from the boats but as usual Jack didn’t listen. Above the water Alex was looking for a snapper for dinner. He had taken his boat out to the place he knew the fish swam. 

Alex didn’t care about the fish. He just wanted to cook some up for dinner. He didn’t care if the fish he caught were too small. He didn’t care if the fish he caught were too big, he just took them off his hook with his bare hands. Alex only wanted a nice meal.

His friends used to get angry with him because they knew it was important to think about the size of the fish you took from the sea because if they didn’t do this the fish won’t be able to breed. That would mean there would be no fish to catch in the future.

Not using a wet towel to hold a fish will damage its scales which can make them get sick or die.

If Alex remembered to measure the fish he caught he would know it was important to put undersized fish like Jack back in the sea, but he didn’t. Jack had been hungry and had seen the bait but unfortunately he didn’t see the hook. The next thing he knew he was up! Fish don’t do that so he knew he was in trouble.

His scales felt very dry, he couldn’t breathe, why didn’t he listen to his parents. Suddenly he felt a splash of salt water, the splash became bigger and soon all his scales started to cool down and he could breathe again.

Alex had a big grin on his face. He knew he was having fish for dinner that day. Alex didn’t follow many rules but he did know that if he filled the bucket with salt water the fish would stay fresh. Alex was a greedy fisherman and caught way over the limit if seven snapper a day. As he started to make his way back home the fisheries police decided to check how many fish he had caught

Alex went straight to jail because he couldn’t pay the big fine for having too many fish. The police put Jack back in the sea just in time. He knew he had a lucky escape and decided that this would be the last time he ever tried to eat bait.

Information Report - Emperor Penguins

Emperor Penguins

Did you know that penguins are a bird that have a special kind of oil . The special oil that they use is to keep the feathers nice and dry when they go hunting in the sea.  Did you know the female go hunting and the male stay and keep the eggs warm.

Penguins have white bellies, black backs ,a  long beak, short neck and blacks eyes. They have webbed feet to help them walk on the ice. Penguins don’t have wings, they have flippers instead for swimming in the ocean. The black and white colours on their front and back is called counter shading, which means they can camouflage in the water.

Did you know that penguins are carnivores that eat fish, krill, squid, crustaceans, amphipods, cephalopod and silverfish?  Penguins take turns hunting for food to feed their babies.

Emperor Penguins live in cold, icy places like Antarctica and the South Pole.They live next to the ice, snow and the water.

Did you know they live in large groups called colonies to keep them safe from predators?

Did you know that there are some dangerous threats for penguins? Some of the predators are leopard seals, eared seal, orcas, sharks, sea lion and killer whales.

There are 18 species of penguin in the world and they are found in different countries.

This week for writing we made an information report about penguins. The structure we used was called TIPS. It stands for title, introduction, paragraph, and summary. We talked to our critical friends after each paragraph, so they could help us to check that what we had written made sense, and that we had used the right language features. 

Procedural Text

This week my partner and I made a DLO to remind us what we need to include in a procedural text. We found out that a procedural text tells us how to make or do something. It is a set of instructions that makes the reader understand a set of steps clearly.

Stretching Sentences

On Wednesday we played a game called 2 words 1 minute. In this game there are two words and you have to make sentences using those two words in 1 minute. After we had one game we made a DLO were we had to explain how to stretch sentences with the 5 w's and the H to make a better sentence and add more detail.

Caring For Planet Earth

Did you know that plastic bag is damaging the earth because plastic bags takes
around 400 years to deposed. Also did you know that in New Zealand they are
removing plastic bag from supermarket.

Plastic bags is bad for the environment so that’s why we should use reusable bags.
Plastic bag do a lot of harm to the sea creature’s like turtle, shark, tuna and salmon.
It because these sea creature like to eat jellyfish and they might think that jellyfish is
a plastic bag and try to eat it.

Also plastic ring can do a lot of harm to baby turtle because when there are stuck and
then when there are growing up there shell will not growth because the plastic ring is
stuck on the turtle. That why we should throw away plastic like plastic bag and plastic rings.

This week for writing we wrote an explanation sample to see what we know and what we don't know. We used the LS2 writing rubic to see what levels we are for writing. Then we got into buddies my buddy was Matthew. We wrote what we need to work on, I need to work on making my sentence sense. 

Sketchnote Explanation

This week we worked in pairs for writing and we created this digital sketch note about Explanation Writing. We used information that we already knew and then we shared ideas as a class. We need to remember when writing an explanation that we have a Title, Introduction, 3 paragraphs for the information and a Conclusion. We should use formal language and write in present tense We need to remember to structure our sentences and use time order so our information makes sense. I worked with Nevaeh on this task.

Kahoot

Today for writing we made a Kahoot that tell us about explanation. Then we got in a group of three. I worked with Jack and Reneir. It was fun making the question and kind of hard at the sometime because we need to make a 12 question.

Explanation Writing

How have camels adapted to their environment?

Are you aware that camels are a special species that live in the desert. They can go without water for a week or more, and can handle temperatures of up to 42 c because of the changes in their bodies over time.

One of the physical changes is they can drink around 46 liters of water in one go and they can go several month without food because they store fat in their hump. This fat them turns into energy to keep them strong.

Camels have a double layer of eyelashes to protect the sand from going inside their eyes. The eyebrows help the eye from shield it from the sun and they have big thick lips for the sharp cactus so they can eat it and get water out of it. Camels have a thick layer of fur to keep warm when it get cold at night. As the sand gets very hot during the day these animals have pads on their feet and stomach so they don’t get burnt.

A desert is a hot and dry place to be at and there some of the weather can cause a really strong sandstorm. Sandstorms are really dangerous because they can make you blind. Breathing in sand is another danger for camels so they have large nostril that they can open and close to protect them from the sandstorm.

Camels have adapted so they can survive in the desert.

This week we wrote an explanation about camels and how they adapted to the environment. We have also been looking about how their physical changes. Like what helped the camel survive in the desert. Our group watched a video that tell us information about the camels.

Three Little Pig

Today for writing we finish off our pick a path story from last week. Pick a path story is all about you picking a way to go but there are two ways to go so there a matter of change that you well get it wrong but if you it is wrong then you will restart and pick a different ways to go.       

Pechaflickr Narratives

Today we finished off our writing from last week because we just need to do our recording. We recorded a Pechaflickr. A Pechaflickr is when you tell a story with out looking at the words in the book, it is like making it up about what is going to happens next with out reading it form the text. These helped us because we got to talk together and try to link the words up together. It was fun because we got to learn new things that we didn't know.         

M&M Presentation

This week we did a DLO about M&M's, it is about us collaboratively together with our group to find the information that we need and the work is all about finding information about M&M like finding three interesting fact about M&M, compering our group chat to the M&M chart about the colour in the packet, making a bar graph and a pie graph and then finding history about M&M. It was fun to do this activate because I found out some interesting fact that I don't know about M&M. One of the fact is When Forrest Mars saw the Spanish civil war eating chocolate pellets then he got the idea for M&M’s to be created. It was very challenging because me and my group did a lot research to find the information for our DLO.
