Tech Pewter Casting

Today we went to tech to do pewter casting. This is our third session of pewter casting and this week for pewter casting we had to write our name on the board, and show our design to the teacher. We then were given a piece of wood, to trace our design on, and cut out. The design that I chose was a dollar sign, and it tuned out really good. It was almost in perfect shape, but people could still tell what it was. I then used a machine, that cut the wood and 50 slices per second. It was my first time using it, but was fun and easy to get used to. I showed my cut out to Mr Grundy, (Our Teacher) and he really liked what I had done, that he wanted to pour liquid pewter into it, to make my final product. Now all I have to do, is polish the design, and file any rough edges.

Softball Throw

This week for kiwi sport we learnt softball throws. We got taught the monkeydile catch and a crab walk to go side to side. Then we had to play a game.We had to throw the ball to each other and if our partner could catch it we had to move back and then throw it again from a longer distance. After that game we had to throw it and try to clap while the ball was in the air. We had to see how many claps we could do before we caught the ball.  It was fun having softball throws because I am good at throwing.                   

Whakatauki

Today me and Joseph worked together on our Whakatauki. Whakatauki reminds our school what is the school values.Our school Whakatauki is Manaaki Whenua it mean care for the land, Manaaki Tangata the meaning in English is care for the people and last but not lest Haere Whakamua which means go forward.I like the whakatauki because care for the land is like don't put rubbish on the ground and care for the people is like if someone is hurt then we cane help them and then going forward is like the past already happen so then just keep going forward and forget about it.           
 

Kiwi Can

At Kiwi Can we talked about fair play, fair game and positive relationships.  Then we played an energiser which was called get in the hoop. What you had to do was run anti clockwise as Mr Matt called out the numbers.  If your number was chosen we had to speed walk around the circle and then jump into the hoop in the middle.  You got out if you were the last person to stand in the hoop.   After the game we talked about fair play and the importance of having game rules.  We also played ball tag which is like netball. In this game we had to pass the ball to each other  and try to tag the people in the other team with two hands.  If you got passed the ball you couldn't move around.  All these games helped us to practice being fair and a good team player.   Last of all we played GKQ and we had to choose to answer the question by making a sound and putting our hands on our heads.  I did not know the answer to the question!

Chinese New Year

Kung hei fat choi! (Happy Chinese New Year), this year symbolizes the year of the dog. The Chinese New Year is well known today but, how did it start off?

In the beginning it is said that Chinese New Year wasn’t celebrated, the reason being because of a monster named Nian who terrorised Chinese people on the first moon of every year.

The monster did that for a long time until a wise old man told the people about Nian’s three fears; Fire, the colour red and loud noises.

The next time that the Chinese New Year came they were prepared,

and so as soon as Nian arrived the people were covered in red coloured clothes,

lit fireworks, made loud noises from hitting their drums.

Nian then ran away and so every year as a celebration people wear red clothes, light fireworks and make loud noises by hitting drums.

One day the Jade Emperor decided to make animals take part in a race, the race was to decide what twelve animals would be on the Chinese New Year zodiac.

The animal that came first was the Rat, followed by an Ox and a Tiger.

After them came a Rabbit, a Dragon, a Snake, A Horse, a Goat, a Monkey, a Rooster, a Dog and a Pig.

People also celebrate Chinese New Year by giving Hong Bao to unmarried adults and children, inside of the Hong Bao there is supposed to be money.

They also eat food like egg rolls, noodles and shrimp. The foods represent (in order) wealth, healthiness and happiness.

This is what has happened or is happening to create the Chinese New Year that we know today.

On Monday we researched Chinese New Year. We watched a video that told us about Chinese New Year and then went to get a vivid to write on a piece of paper and we took notes on the piece of paper with our partner. After that we used our chromebook to write about the Chinese New Year and my teacher told my partner to ask me questions and if I knew the answer then I could type it in the text box.                     

Reciprocal Reading

To day for reading we did reciprocal reading and it was easy because I had to look at the year 8 first to know what to do.

Maths Strategy

This week on Tuesday I have been working on my maths with Joseph. We had to solve an equations which was addition. The way we solve this was by using place value. Joseph and I also had to help each other to solve problems using Place Values
