Activity 2: Impossible Burgers

For this activity it is your job to read the nutritional facts about these burgers and to work out the difference between the two burgers in the following areas:

On your blog, share your results. You can use the following three sentences as a guide.
      1. The new impossible burger has 50% less calories than the original impossible burger.
      2. The new impossible burger has 4% less fat than the original impossible burger.
      3. The new impossible burger has 9% less sodium than the original impossible burger.
These are the 3 fact that I chose to write about the impossible burger. I find them interesting because I thought that they were all made of meat. I liked this activity because it included meat which I like and because I got to learn about different ingredients in a burger (meat).

      Activity 1: The Social Network

For this activity, please think about what you have learned in class about being cyber smart.

On your blog provide five rules that people should follow when sharing pictures and/or streaming videos online.

For the first activity for day 5, we were making 5 rules that people should follow when sharing picture or streaming videos online. It is important to stay cyber smart because you might not know what could happen. One of the rules that we had was never share your location while streaming online it is because some random person might come to your door step.

For this activity, please watch this short introductory video from The Water Project.

On your blog, share what you have learned about The Water Project with us. What is the goal of the organisation? Where do they work? What have they achieved?

For the first activity of the third day I needed to research and write about the water project which is an African organisation that's trying to give young girls in Africa a proper education. After watching the video on the organisation I found out that millions of people go without clean water every day, and many people die to water borne illnesses.

      Market Day Evaluation

Last week on Friday it was marketing day each class form the school made a variety of items, our class made rainbow crayon. It was good idea because people was buying it and it was on a low price. Also it was easy to make because we don't need to buy any crayon but instead our class went to each other room and ask them for their broken crayons. I would like to change the stand so that it could be on the court so that we don't need to run around to places. We got a gross profit of $96.00 dollar but it cost us $8.00 dollar and our net profit is $88.00 dollar.

      Writing Personification

As my tired, soggy and worn out body slowly scrapes across the muddy concrete floor, I think back to what happened this morning.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, these 5 wrinkly, cheese smelling things are shoved inside me. Their sharp tips scratch my innards and get caught in my fabric. I angrily chafe this intruder, and it responds by smacking me against a wall. As I’m unwilling to be torn on any sharp objects, I relent and let the smelly thing be. After an hour or so of running, my friend and I are forced to watch as the giant goes straight through a puddle of mud- with us still attached! It only groaned as a huge amount of water started flooding through my skin.
Boy do I hate being a shoe.

Today for writing Alex and I needed to write a story from a shoes' perspective, the thing is, we couldn't talk. It got confusing at times because we both had ideas but they were nothing alike. We also needed to use the some of the senses to describe what was happening to the shoe. After that, we listened to the other group's stories and then we presented our own.

      Reading Presentation

Today for reading we were doing a presentation about our history topic, our topic was about knight. In our DLO we talked about how to become a knight and some famous knight. Food Print

Yesterday Michal Garvey from foodprint talked to us about how she started to make her own businesses. She talked to us about how waste was being a problem and how she stared to plan her own businesses. It took around 2 years of planning and now it been 6 months when it opened. She did this because so much food is being wasted. Like 20 million loaves of bread has been wasted in NZ a year and imagine how much money it will cost for the resources and transport.

A History of Protest in New Zealand

This week in reading, our group was reading a book about some of the biggest protest in New Zealand's. The book that we were reading was called Stand Up A History of Protest in New Zealand. As we were doing reciprocal reading, we made a list of vocabulary, summary, predictions and questions. Then we made a literacy weaving strip and using two words each from the book. I chose bread and soldiers because back then instead of fighting the soldiers they would hang out bread. Choosing my second option wasn't hard, I chose soldiers because they were taking down the house to make new roads

      Need And Want

This week for inquiry we had to compare the difference between need and want. This was kind of hard because we can't say need or want in the explanation. We worked into groups so that we can talk to each other and explain something that we don't know.

      Maths

This week we were making a slide about the total lifetime of owning a pet dog and how much it will cost . The dog that we chose was a border collie, in the slide we added the life span, the average wight, food cost, what gender, the food and how much it will cost for the registration.

      Summarising the Main Ideas

This week for current events we were asked to find a news item that interested us. After reading it we summarised it in our own words before making it more succinct in five 10 syllable sentences.

      Article here:

      Keywords from the title
      Keywords from
      sub- headings
New words I need to look up
      Box, cheating, Exam
      Exam, student cheating.
      Officials, allegedly

Write down 20 important words from the text
Box, cheating, Exam, cardboard, indian, Students, looking, experiment, other, school, viral, 15, 20, minutes, onehour, removed, Bhagat Pre-University College, Twitter, apology, hearing
Chose the 6 most important words.
Box, cheating, exam, Bhagat Pre-University College, viral, school
Turn these words into sentences to summarise the text
People who go to Bhagat Pre-University College, in indian has to wear cardboard box in exam. It is because to keep them from cheating. So that they don’t look at the other people answer sheet. The picture of the student was posted on twitter and it went viral. They say that there were doing an experiment, because that saw other school did it.

      10 syllable sentences:

In In-dia schools use card-board box-es. They use the box to keep them from cheating. So that they don’t look at others answers. The picture on Twitter and went viral. They saw other schools did it then copied.

      The Possum Problem

This week in reading, we read a book about possums and how they were brought to New Zealand. As we were reading we made notes about what we wanted to know, what we already knew and the information we found out. After we read the book, we created a screen castify about possums. We created a DLO and scripts for each person to read.

      Writing Explanation

Why would I be an asset to my new school?

When I go to my new school I am going to take everything that I learnt here and take it with me on my journey. For example I am going to take all the maths strategies that I learnt here with me so I use them when I am stuck on a hard question.

I would also take my sportsmanship and teamwork with me when I join a sport team in my new school. I will be a team player and cheer them on, even if I’m not on the field or court. I would also do my best, train hard, try not to let my team down. If we lose I won’t get angry but I will wish the other team good luck.

I would get involved with the learning and sharing ideas if I am in a group. I will listen to what people have to say about the work that we are doing, and if someone is not involved get them involved with the learning. I am also going to join in things that I don’t like and just deal with it.

I am also going to take my respect, kindness and empathy with me. That means I am going to be kind to other people, show respect by listening to the teacher and do as I am told. When someone is upset I will look after them and listen to what they have to say or what is happening.

When I start my next school I am going to wake up earlier everyday and look smart. I will continue to come to school on time and turn on my brain on so I get ready for school work. I am going to meet new friends and try not to be shy to say hello to people I don’t know. I will try my best and will work hard in all my subjects. I am really excited and can’t wait to start my new learning journey.
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today for Writing I wrote a explanation about why would I be an asset to my new school. In my explanation it talked about what I am bring with me when I go to a new school. I talked about the strategies that I would use if a am stuck. I also talked about showing sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, kindness and empathy.

      Writing Explanation

      Don’t Judge someone

Respect…. Kindness…. Empathy, they are the three most important values that you need to show. Don’t judge someone by it cover, it is because something bad might happen to them like losing their job. If you show the three words you could make their day. It is because they might need a friend to talk to and share their feelings.

Respect: you should always show respect when you see someone on the street instead of disrespect them like this for example ( look at you why do you need the money you problem going to buy some drugs but instead he probably need the money to buy food for his family). You should ask what's wrong first instead of disrespecting someone.

Kindness: some people don't show kindness it is because they judge people that are homeless to quickly. This is why they don’t give money to them. In a video that I watched was an experiment if people will give a rich guy money for baby food or the homeless guy to buy baby food for his baby. Most people give money to the rich guy it is because their are probably think that the poor guy is lying and don’t need the money.

Empathy: I should say that this word is the most important word, you know why let me tell you. Imagine you are on the street and I read you sign and I say it not true you are lying and I walk away (The sign was you ask for money). How would you feel if this happens to you. The right thing you need to do is ask what's wrong and also share each others feel about what happened to him in the past. You should also help him if he needs money and one important thing you should do, it is to make him have a happy day.
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This week for writing I were writing an explanation about using respect, kindness and empathy towards other people. In my explanation I talked about don't judge them if there are poor and also we should away talk to them how they feeling and share feeling.

      Water filters

This week we were making Water filters l was working with Avalon, Karlos and Joel. We made a DLO that explained about water filters and people who don´t get clean water. We were creating our Water filters to find out how to turn dirty water into clean water by using our own ideas and things to make one so we can find out how we can make dirty turn into clean water. We created our own plan that had some ideas of what we could do then we draw what we wanted it to look like. We cut a whole bottle into half then we added chuxs cloth at the cap part where the water was going to come out of to stop the dirty and sand.

      Early Maori Enterprise

Early Maori Enterprise started with tribes trading items all over New Zealand. Trades included a variety of foods, baskets and jewellery. Later on British travellers came to New Zealand asking for food, and other items. This turned into trades where the Maori people sold their valuable land and foods for unfair returns. This resulted in the Maori people selling too much of their land and belongings, leaving them with little to nothing.

Maori enterprise started with trading. They traded items like food and clothing. Soon British travellers came wanting food. The British also wanted to buy land. Then Maori sold too much, they lost their land.

This week for inquiry we were learning about Maori enterprise. After we were done we wrote a 5 sentences about how Maori started enterprise. But then we changed our 5 sentences so that we only have 10 syllables in a sentences.

      Rugby Pitch Sizes Challenge

This week for maths another challenge was to answer questions on rugby pitch sizes. Some of the other questions were: What is the perimeter of a maximum size of rugby pitch? And, what is the area of a maximum size rugby pitch? After finishing all of the other questions, my group needed to create a DLO on how we found our answer.

      Rugby Advertisement

This week for writing, we were making Advertisement for Rugby. We had 2 choices, to either make a video or make a poster. We first planned to make a video, but as time sped up we chose to make a poster. We also chose to use a Rugby Ball as our advertisement. We tried to use some qualities that advertisement had so that it is really relatable.

      Rugby World Cup

This week for maths our theme was rugby world cup. We had seven question to do, our first question was about what is the different in seating capacity between the largest and the smallest stadiums in Japan. After we were done doing the seven question we made a DLO about one of the question we did.

      Current Events

This week for reading Alex, Joseph, Jack, Julian and I worked together to fill out a google map with international events. We needed to search through different news websites to find stories that fit the current event criteria. Our story for oddity is twin pandas being born in Belgium and for impact, bush fires.

      Pop-up globe

On Friday we were visited by the pop-up globe workers. They gave us information about William Shakespeare which was interesting. William Shakespeare would always try to make his sentence rhyme. The fourth wall is when the narrator includes the audience. One of Williams Shakespeare acts called Macbeth was extremely cursed. In William Shakespeare's tragedy acts, there is always a death.

Supermarket stopped selling energy drinks to kid under 16

A provocation is an action or a speech that triggers strong feeling about a topic. Recently a major supermarket chain a announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to people under the age of 16. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that show both perspectives what is your opinion and why?

      Exploring our national current events

News editors make decisions everyday about which current events stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in NZ,thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google maps.

      Explanation: Should NZ ban plastic?

65,000 thousand plastic straws have been collected for over 10 years in New Zealand beaches. Did you also know that there about 437 million - 8.3 billion plastic straws in the Ocean. Hi my name is Aung Naing and I think that we should ban plastic straws. Plastic straws are a harm to sea creatures. Its unusual why people throw away plastic straws.

My reason for talking about this is because there are so many plastic straws that are made every day. I feel like we need to change our actions because there are a lot of plastic straws that have been thrown on the ground every single day. After you finish throwing your plastic straw on the ground it could go out to sea and letting the sea turtle eating it or getting it stuck up their nose.

We should remove plastic straws and add paper straws or use other material instead of plastic. It is because paper straw can dissolve but plastic straw are harder to dissolve or break down, it is because it takes 500 year to break down. There are different materials we can use like metal, you can carry it with you and you can keep reusing it, but plastic straws are not that useful, it is because it can bend easily.

Did you know that there are about 500 million plastic straws are used every single day. Wow! I think that there are a lot of plastic straws that are used every day. Well some shops are to be blamed, Mc Donald, Burger King and KFC sell free Plastic Straws.

This is why I would not suck, it is because it is harming the marine animals, out of curiosity, have you ever seen people taking a plastic straw out of a sea turtle nose before.

      Tech

This week was our last session for robotics tech, we were finishing off our movies. Our teacher was Miss Munoz. She was awarding out prizes for the best movie, like gift cards chocolate and lollipop. The people in my group were Alex, Neveah and I. We came first place so we got to pick what we wanted. Our movie was about what we can do with the robots, for an example: they can dance. Thank you Miss Munoz for teaching us how to code with the Mblock.

      Point of View: Plastic Straw

This week for writing we were making a DLO about reason why we should ban plastic straws and why we should't ban plastic straws and also in the middle was our opinion. My partner I decided for our opinion we will talk about why we should ban plastic straws. It is because it is killing the sea animal.

      Persuasive speech

LI:To write a speech to persuades others to think the way you do.

children under the age of 15 shouldn’t be able to play video games that involve shooting

Hi my name is Aung Naing and I believe children under the age of 15 years old shouldn’t be able to play video games that involve shooting, not because kids shouldn’t play any video games, I just think that shooting games influence children to have the same actions as the video games.

My reason for talking about this is because shooting games give people a clear message that guns can lead to a bad problem. Playing shooting games like Fortnite, Call of Duty and other games is not a good idea for younger kids because they can learn bad words.

Shooting Games like Fortnite can get kids addicted, which means they can lose focus with their learning while in school. They might be staying up late at night playing games to get better or to get a win, which will make them very tired. Another problem is that they are missing out on fresh air and exercise.

Kids can get more violent playing the game and won’t stop playing it is because these games are very addictive. If the game is taken off them they can retaliate violently towards their caregiver.

Playing violent games might be fun, but you never know what that fun could cause or teach you. Imagine waking up to a gun pointing at your head, it could be your brother or your sister because anyone can change with this sort of influence.

A couple of weeks ago we were working on making our persuasive speech for the speech competition. My speech was about why children under the age of 15 years old shouldn’t be able to play video games that involve shooting. I wrote this because it is bad for younger kids to play, they can learn a lot of thing form older people. I did well saying my speech but I didn't do well to have the confidence to say it in a big group.

Today we did HIIT. We worked on building our strength and increasing our heart rate. The activity that we did was push up, pull up and mountain climbing. We worked collaboratively with a buddy so that we can encourage each other to work hard. I found pull up hard because it drain all you energy to push your self up. We also had a challenge to do and it was going down to do a squat if the song say bring sally down, the song that we use of the challenge is the son is bring sally up. Also I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Ogilve for doing the lesson with us.

      Multiplication Game

This week LS2 were making a maths game for our classmates to get better at there math knowledge. my maths game was all about multiplication, this was a fun task because when someone plays my game I feel good about it because it is showing my learning to the person who is playing the game, and for them to learn more about multiplication.

      Rhythm Interative's visit to PBS

This week John from Rhythm Interactive came to our school and taught the whole school how to play a drum. The theme for today drumming was 'together we can make a change'. John said to us if you can say it, you can drum it. We had to listen carefully so we could follow a rhythm or copy what John saying, like the song he taught us. The drum that we used was called a djembe drum. A djembe drum is from Africa. The thing that I liked was learning how to play play on the djembe and learning the beat. The students from the seniors helped the juniors play their drums. Here is the link to the Rhythm Interactive website.
